Institutes & Advocates
Bringing people together and collaborating to advance a shared interest isn’t easy. Getting everyone involved aligned and attaining the funding you need can be a big challenge. But your efforts and investments will have minimal impact if you don’t spread the word of your good work and you are unable to confront and contend with the challenges you’ll face along the way.
For example, when the Internet Society wanted to increase its profile in the U.S., Bospar created a PR plan to use the organization’s Global Internet Report and international Consumer Privacy Study, increase the visibility of the CEO through op-ed creation and placement, and employ newsjacking to provide media with ready-to-use quotes from the organization on internet regulations and other trending topics that dovetailed with the client’s expertise.
These efforts enabled Bospar to secure more than 100 earned media stories for the client, which is a global advocate for a free and open internet, in such leading media outlets as WIRED, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, MIT Technology Review, Politico, People and many others.
Our work with San Francisco Pride provides great examples of Bospar’s crisis comms expertise.
The organization’s internal PR team resigned after a decision was made to prohibit uniformed, armed police officers from marching in the 2022 SF Pride Parade, and that led to unfortunate news and threats to the LGTBQ+ community. This was all just weeks before the main event, which was intended to mark a triumphant return of live celebrations after the two-year hiatus.
Bospar’s crisis communications experts advised the client in negotiations and in crafting a joint statement with the mayor’s office and law enforcement on their work to arrive at a solution.
This was instrumental in mitigating the problem and redirecting attention to what really mattered: the return of SF Pride and everything it stands for within San Francisco and at scale. The solution that Bospar delivered also included securing a nationally syndicated CNN story that shared the joint statement as well as 170 additional pieces of coverage in less than 30 days.
More recently, in 2023, San Francisco Pride needed financial support and ran into a challenge with the spokesperson it initially chose to inspire Americans of all stripes to support the LGBTQIA+ cause. Bospar worked its PR magic again. Read the details here on The Drum, which named San Francisco Pride and Bospar as crisis category winners in The Drum Awards for PR.
Your efforts and investments will have minimal impact if you don’t spread the word of your good work.
The PR strategy was a success. Our public relations strategy and media outreach landed coverage in such top media outlets as The New York Times as well as on CNN and the BBC. That gave the client quite a lift – including a million-dollar donation from a Hollywood director!
And that’s not the end of the story. Later, Bospar connected with this client and PayPal to produce “PayPal Galactic” with astronaut Buzz Aldrin – PayPal’s biggest-ever media success. Bospar’s public relations approach and media outreach in this case reached all corners of the media universe – from ABC News to Business Insider to CNN to The Huffington Post and NPR..
