Bospar publishes children’s book about PR: “Game Face”

“Game Face” publishes April 2 to uncover a “hidden profession”

SAN FRANCISCO — Jan. 15, 2025 — Bospar, the “politely pushy” PR and marketing firm that puts health and tech companies on the map, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the publication of “Game Face,” a book designed to teach 10-year-olds the fundamentals of public relations. “Game Face” aims to demystify what many parents describe as a “hidden profession” and introduce PR to the next generation in an engaging, accessible way.

Despite PR’s impact on daily life, most Americans (68%) admit they don’t know someone who works in the field, and over half of parents (56%) have not discussed PR with their kids. “Game Face” addresses this disconnect by swapping dry, textbook-style explanations for an adventurous story that puts a 10-year-old at the center of the action.

“‘Game Face’ is for children and anyone else curious about PR,” said Curtis Sparrer, principal and co-founder of Bospar and the book’s author. “I was inspired to write the book when trying to explain my profession to my niece, Sloan. I realized there weren’t any children’s books about the subject, so I decided to write one myself. The story begins with Sloan’s favorite video game experiencing a worldwide glitch; she then discovers that ‘Uncle Curtis’ and his PR agency, Bospar, are dealing with the PR fallout. Recognizing her unique perspective as a gamer, I deputize Sloan as a PR detective. Together with my colleagues at Bospar, we tackle the crisis while Sloan learns about the fundamentals of public relations.”

The charming, illustrated 69-page book will be available on Amazon beginning April 2 in honor of Public Relations Month.

To celebrate the occasion, Ridge Ventures in San Francisco is hosting a book signing party on April 2 at 6:30 p.m. Pacific.

Children’s book and PR authors give “Game Face” a thumbs up!

“Part mystery, part crash course in PR and all heart – Sparrer teaches kids to look beyond the obvious and find their own superpowers in storytelling,” said Jeff Wilser, author of “Alexander Hamilton’s Guide to Life” and “The Good News About What’s Bad For You… and The Bad News About What’s Good For You.” “Clever, charming and always in on the joke.”

“A fun and entertaining introduction to the world of PR,” said Jase Peeples, author of the children’s book “SQUARE ZAIR PAIR.

“This is the perfect book when you’re trying to explain what modern PR and communications are to your kid,” said Sabrina Horn, founder and CEO of the Horn Group, executive coach, author and professor. “Great illustrations and examples bring the PR pro’s job to life!”

“The brilliance of this book is how it takes a big scary concept like PR and scales it down to Tiny Terror Mode,” said Adam Ritchie, author of “Invention in PR” and principal of Adam Ritchie Brand Direction.

Methodology

The Hidden Careers Survey was commissioned by Bospar and conducted online by Propeller Insights from December 11 to December 13, 2024. Propeller Insights surveyed more than 1,053 U.S. adults. Survey responses were nationally representative of the U.S. population for age, gender, region, and ethnicity. The maximum margin of sampling error was +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
