Bospar Takes Gold and Silver in 2019 Muse Creative Awards

Boutique PR Agency Recognized for ‘Say San Francisco’ and George Takei’s House of Cats Campaigns

SAN FRANCISCO — May 1, 2019 — Bospar, the boutique PR firm that puts tech companies on the map, has won two 2019 Muse Creative Awards: Gold for its  “Say San Francisco” campaign and Silver for work with George Takei and the House of Cats app.

Bospar’s “Say San Francisco” campaign was a creative bid for the attention of Silicon Valley executives. After surveying 200 people from the Bay Area and over 1,000 people from the U.S., Bospar discovered that Americans like using “Frisco” and “San Fran” — nicknames San Franciscans hate. The story’s second iteration secured both online and print coverage in the Bay Area Reporter and an on-camera TV interview with the local ABC affiliate.  PRWeek covered the campaign here: “Bospar to Neil Patrick Harris: Stop calling our city ‘San Fran.’”

“When Bospar does its own PR, we challenge ourselves to outdo ourselves,” said Curtis Sparrer, a principal at Bospar. “The first year we conducted our ‘San Fran’ campaign, we surveyed the country and San Francisco about the city’s nicknames. This year we asked people in the U.K., Canada and Australia about the nicknames they use for San Francisco and then conducted a social media campaign asking actor Neil Patrick Harris to stop calling San Francisco  ‘San Fran.’”

For the House of Cats app launch, Bospar worked with George Takei and the creators of an augmented reality app featuring “Trumpy Cat” (a cat that looks and sounds like President Trump) to earn an avalanche of media hype.

“This account was pure kismet for our team,” said Stacey Grimsrud, a senior account manager at Bospar. “George Takei and the House of Cats creators were receptive to our ideas, responsive to media opportunities and supportive throughout. It was a lot of work, but it was a fun and rewarding collaboration.”
