Curtis Sparrer’s new book introduces kids to the world of PR through an exciting adventure
SAN FRANCISCO — April 2, 2025 — Bospar, the “politely pushy” PR and marketing firm known for putting health and tech companies on the map, is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the official Amazon launch of “Game Face,” the first children’s book designed to teach 10-year-olds about the world of public relations. Conceived and written by Curtis Sparrer, Bospar principal, “Game Face” introduces the next generation to PR in a lively, engaging and accessible way.
“Game Face” demystifies PR – and demonstrates Bospar’s ongoing leadership in redefining and promoting the profession.
PR is often referred to as the hidden profession. Even though it significantly influences American’s everyday lives, it’s not visible – unlike professions like firefighters, police officers, doctors, lawyers, schoolteachers, truck drivers or plumbers. Over two-thirds (68%) of American adults acknowledge they don’t know anyone who works in PR. And while 78% of children say they are interested in storytelling-related jobs, only 3.5% cite being a journalist or publicist as their preferred profession when an adult. Not surprisingly, over half of parents (56%) say they have never discussed PR with their children.
“Bospar is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, and I couldn’t be prouder,” said Sparrer. “But when I tried explaining Bospar to my 10-year-old niece, Sloan, I realized she had no idea what PR was. It was a bit deflating, but it also sparked an idea—why not write a book to introduce kids to this profession since there weren’t any? At its core, PR is storytelling, something many kids naturally gravitate toward. We should expose them to the widest range of career possibilities—like those in PR.”
The book follows Sloan, a tenacious young gamer whose favorite video game experiences a worldwide glitch. As the PR fallout unfolds, Sloan’s Uncle Curtis — who runs a PR agency — recruits her as a PR detective, guiding her through the exciting world of crisis communications, storytelling and media strategy. Together with the keen-eyed PR team at Bospar, Sloan learns firsthand how PR professionals solve problems, shape narratives and navigate challenges.
To celebrate the occasion, Ridge Ventures (649 Front Street, Suite 100, San Francisco) will host a book signing tonight at 6:30 p.m.
The illustrated 69-page book is available for purchase on Amazon starting today.
