Purpose of Role
The Senior Account Director is responsible for managing a portfolio of 7-8 clients and account teams, and for taking an active role in the professional development of junior staffers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Account Strategy and Management:
- Lead or co-lead strategy development and day-to-day direction of client teams (depending on account size)
- Drive targeted, proactive, creative communications strategies aligned with clients’ business goals
- Stay up to date on client-specific media and industry developments to deliver informed, thoughtful recommendations
- Allocate hours for account teams on a monthly basis, and encourage teams to maintain accurate reporting in Harvest
- Establish client- and team-appropriate roles and responsibilities
- Client Relations:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, fostering a strong long-term partnership
- Anticipate client needs and respond to client requests in a thoughtful, timely manner
- Thoughtfully respond to client concerns and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Lead strategy-focused portions of client calls
- Implement crisis management techniques and advise on potential courses of action, providing support to the senior account lead
- Media Relations:
- Develop and drive proactive, data-driven media strategies
- Ensure outbound pitches demonstrate industry expertise and creative thinking
- Monitor for newsjacking opportunities and oversee rapid-response initiatives
- Support pitching initiatives as needed, focusing on top-tier broadcast, print and digital targets
- Mentorship and Management:
- Coach and develop teams and individuals, empowering teams to achieve their full potential in a positive and supportive environment
- Directly manage 2–3 Bospartans — deliver regular, actionable feedback and support performance reviews
- Resolve individual/team issues promptly and fairly, with support from senior leadership and/or HR as appropriate
- Business Development:
- Support new business proposals, including presentation development and delivery
- Build external network by attending events, participating in professional organizations, etc.
- Reporting:
- Finalize monthly/quarterly reports
- Maintain accurate reporting in Harvest
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in public relations, including 5+ years of agency experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, English or related field
- Sharp business and PR acumen to quickly determine short- and long-term priorities for self and junior team members
- Experience in B2B and/or B2C technology industries
- Excellent communication and client relations skills (oral and written)
- Strategic thinker with the initiative to lead programs from start to finish
- Thrives in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple assignments and changing priorities
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Positive, energizing manager and mentor who inspires teams to excel
- Compelling presenter and public speaker
